Fashion – 3 Holiday Party Looks – Girly, Glam & Glitzy

December 22, 2017

Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way. Oh what fun it is… to arrive to a party looking stylish.

Holiday parties are now in full swing, but wait! What do you wear?! The holidays are stressful enough, and I get it, there are so many outfit options (and not enough holiday events to wear them all). Plus, there are so many trends out there right now to choose from- jumpsuits, frock with feathers, metallics, velvet, lace, bell-sleeve tops, deep-V necklines, sweater dresses, etc.

Picking an outfit during this season should be the least of your worries (you should be more worried about socializing with annoying relatives). To make your life a little easier and give you some inspiration, I styled three different looks for you to choose from (Girly, Glam & Glitzy)! Whether it’s for a work event, holiday bash with friends, or a night out on the town, I’ve got you covered. I wanted each look to be different, yet perfect for the holiday season.

For this shoot I had the pleasure of working with Laura Paxton of Flashback photography. We had so many ideas for this shoot and had a blast working on it! We also did something a little different (check out the video below). We were fortunate to use The Chanterelle’s space (great location for a holiday party)- it’s absolutely stunning (even the bathrooms are gorgeous)!

Now it’s just a matter of choosing an outfit…or finding an excuse to wear all three during the holidays.

‘Tis the season to party!

Girly girl:

For the girly girl: this look is all about a soft colour (in this case-blush), and delicate accessories. Off-the-shoulder dresses are huge right now (almost as huge as Santa’s belly), as are slits, so I got the best of both worlds with this dress. Everything from the fit, to the length, to the colour screams classic and girly. For this look, I kept the makeup fairly simple- with soft pink tones for the- eyes, cheeks and lips. Since more of the chest/shoulders are exposed, the best way to accessorize is by adding a necklace – like a delicate pearl or diamond chocker (if the hair is down), or big hoop earrings (if the hair is pulled back). I also accessorized with a pearl ring to add to the femininity of the whole look. Nude or blush coloured shoes would work best with a blush coloured dress. You could also accessorize with a fun pearl clutch!

Glam girl:

For the glam girl: this look is about being sophisticated, and setting the trend (not just following it). It’s always nice to have an option besides a dress and go for something different- like pants and a top, or a jumpsuit. These velvet pants are so much fun for the holidays and a white blouse pairs perfectly while also being a wardrobe staple. Whenever I think of “glamorous”, I always think of movie stars and a classic red lip. I used a red lip to “glam” up this look and add a pop of colour and I kept the rest of my makeup look fairly neutral. To add some sophistication (and draw attention to the red lips), I tied my hair into a bun, you could also try a ponytail or fishtail braids. The deep blue velvet clutch is another great way of adding some colour and setting the trend. To keep in line with the theme, I chose these beautiful black heels with a fun detail at the back- bows! You could accessorize with any black shoes with a fun detail- like pom-poms or diamonds.

Glitzy girl:

For the glitzy girl: this look is for the girl who wants to be the centre of attention at a holiday bash. She’s the one who is dancing like no one is watching- and doesn’t care who is. What better way to go all out during the holidays than with sequins?! I can honestly say I own more sequin dresses than a drag queen. This look is daring, fun and for the ultimate holiday party. I wanted the dress to be the focal point, so I didn’t add accessories (although you could add a fun cocktail ring or earrings- if you pull back your hair). You could also pair a black clutch with fun details with this look. I chose black heels, you could also choose a deep colour (like emerald or ruby)- depending on the dress. I kept my hair sleek, added some blue sparkly liquid liner, and a nude lip.
